We are so thrilled! My son married his girlfriend from Germany in early June. They have been writing to each other for four years and finally met in May. Their meeting was everything they had hoped and, after advice from an immigration attorney, married immediately rather than facing a year or more of separation while the immigration engine slowly ground its way forward. I am so impressed that a modern woman could pull together her own wedding in less than two weeks! She found a dress off-the-shelf, but it was the wrong size. She had it modified by a tailor to fit and she looked absolutely beautiful. Luckily her parents were able to change their plans and get to Oregon as well. They married in a grove of redwood trees and Jon performed the wedding as a “Dudeist Priest“. It was lovely.
What does this have to do with Cruising?
Cruising isn’t just about sailing places. Normal life intervenes at times. Obviously when your son says he is getting married that is one of those times!
And – having to do with the cruising lifestyle – I was able to combine a wedding gift with further downsizing: I got all the photos out of our storage area and made a bunch of albums from those photos and THREW THE REST AWAY. One album for each of my sons with their own stories from birth to adulthood, a book to return to storage about a trip to Europe we took, and an album with family photos that will return to storage. Oh – and a little tiny book with a handful of random family images for keeping on the boat for ourselves.
Best Wishes! Just makes one smile to see it.
Congratulations, Soren and Mirja! Thank you for sharing these memorable occasion through pictures with us all, far and wide.
